What the Queen Sees in Mirror

Painting three out of fourteen in The Trial of Queen Vergeblich, The Stepmother of Snow White series.

The Queen summoned me to the castle, where she requested me to teach her the art of prophecy. She said she wanted to help the people in the village with their crops to have more prosperity. But she proved to be a poor student with no interest in helping others. So I gave her a mirror and told her she could look into it and see what was in her future.

I was later told that all she did was say to the mirror, “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?” All she wanted was for the mirror to tell her that she was the fairest. This act seemed very vain. Everyone knew she was not the fairest because Snow White was always fairer and friendlier than the Queen.

I heard the Queen had learned of the location of Snow White by asking her mirror. The truth is everyone was interested in Snow White’s location because they loved her. So news of Snow White was in the air. And that is how the Queen learned of her location.

If the Queen had any sense about the mirror, she would have looked into the mirror to see what was in her future if she continued to be horrible and mistreat Snow White.
