A handmade traditional Mexican utensil used to mix and foam chocolate drinks with a matching hand carved and painted wooden mug

This specific mug hails from the city of Merida which is the capital of the state of Yucatan, siting at the far end of Mexico. The mug is decorated in bright pigments and has a lid attached to the handle. All of these small touches show the care the craftsman put into making this vessel.

The molinillo is a traditional utensil from Mexico used for drinks made from cacao. These bitter drinks were stirred using hand carved wooden whisks that served to emulsify cacao fats into water as well as providing drinks with a foam on the top.
